Yoho National Park in southeastern British Columbia is world-renowned for its half-billion year old Burgess Shale deposit, which has exquisitely preserved marine soft-bodied animals. While the site has a long history of research and discoveries, the recent collections made in the last three decades by the Royal Ontario Museum represent a treasure trove for scientists and allow a fresh new look at this famed fossil deposit.
Jean-Bernard Caron is a curator of invertebrate paleontology at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). A profound curiosity about fossils during his childhood in France led Caron to collect and curate his own fossil collection. As a teenager, he joined field crews across Europe collecting fossils and was invited to join several crews at the Burgess Shale fossil deposit in BC. Caron completed graduate work on the Burgess Shale and joined the ROM in 2006.
